The "gig economy" was sold to the public as a promise of freedom, flexibility, and entrepreneurship. But today, anyone who has driven for a major U.S. delivery platform knows the reality: it is a system of algorithmic control, falling wages, and structural insecurity.
Drivers are treated as anonymous, interchangeable units, subject to sudden deactivation by algorithms with no human review, while paying massive cuts of their earnings back to tech platforms in California.
At Aisle FLO, we knew we had to build a better way. And we didn't look to Silicon Valley for the answer. We designed a made-in-Canada solution: the Independent Business Operator (IBO) model.
What is an Independent Business Operator?
Unlike gig workers who are dispatched at random by a machine, our IBOs are true local business owners. They own their routes, hold direct relationships with their merchants, and build their own regular client base.
By combining our unified local commerce stack (including FaveCart, GetFLO, Shopper Service, GoCart, and RADL) with a structured logistics framework, we enable independent delivery and transportation professionals to scale their businesses sustainably.
How the IBO Model Works
We replace algorithmic exploitation with business ownership and fair compensation:
- Guaranteed Earnings & Security: IBOs are compensated under structured contracts with guaranteed minimums (e.g., $22/active hour + mileage), ensuring they never work at a loss.
- Client Book Ownership: Aisle FLO customers are connected directly with their local IBO. When a customer orders groceries on FaveCart or food on GetFLO, they get matched with the same trusted local shopper/driver who knows their preferences, building long-term trust.
- Merchant Partnerships: Local IBOs work directly with specific merchants in their zone. A restaurant knows exactly who is handling their deliveries, reducing order inaccuracies and wait times.
"The gig economy shouldn't be about exploitation. It should be about ownership. By helping local operators own their routes and relationships, we keep money in our communities and deliver a far superior experience to customers."
Keeping Capital Local
When you order through Aisle FLO, you aren't subsidizing foreign venture capitalists. You are supporting a local business owner who lives in your neighborhood, spends their earnings in local shops, and pays taxes locally.
This is our commitment to a fairer, more resilient local economy. The technology is here, the infrastructure is Canadian, and the future is independent.
